The RTI Act can take India onto the path of greatness.

rtination is a social, voluntary initiative to make the use of RTI act more accessible by the citizens of India.

The people behind rtination have been working to spread awareness about the RTI Act since 2006. The videos on the homepage of the site have been used for promotion of RTI in campuses, on TV etc. A brainchild of a school kid, this platform is developed by graduates of IITs and IIMs and is aimed at improving the ease of asking for information under the Right to Information Act. Since all the government departments in India are not yet connected through an online network, up to now it was not possible to submit your applications online. We work to ensure that your application reaches the required authorities.

What is the Right to Information Act?

  • Right to Information Act (RTI), passed in 2005 provides to every citizen of India right to ask information held by a Public Authority
  • Now you can quiz the authorities about delays in your passport application, funds spent by your MP or just about anything
  • The information can be asked through Public Information Officers(PIO) in every government department
  • No reason needs to be given for seeking information
  • Cost (directly through the PIO):  Rs. 10 - Rs. 50. Cost (online through rtination): Rs. 125 (View cost break-up)
  • PIO penalised through deduction in salary if information not provided in 30 days

The RTI Act establishes a system of feedback in the government machinery. The government runs on the tax payers money, and now the tax payer can check if his money is being utilised in a proper manner. Just as in a company, the boss who pays the employee has every right to question him and check him. The employee is answerable to his boss.
